In 1997, the bar scene was a clash of cultures. While the craft beer movement from ’96 was still brewing, the mainstream was obsessed with “Girl Power” and neon-colored cocktails. It was the year of the Blue Hawaiian, the Cosmopolitan (thanks to a certain TV show gaining steam), and the ubiquitous “Sour Apple Martini.” Bars were smoky, the internet was still something you did at home with a screeching modem, and if you wanted to look cool, you ordered something that looked like melted radioactive candy.
