In 1999, adult humor was a race against the clock. If you weren’t joking about the world ending because of a spreadsheet error, you were laughing at the “warm apple pie” scene that changed dating forever. It was the year of “Party like it’s 1999″—because we legitimately thought we might not see 2000.
The 1999 Top 10: The “Digital Doomsday & Red Pill” Jokes
- The Y2K Preparation: A guy is buying thousands of cans of beans and 500 boxes of condoms. The cashier asks, “Expecting a long apocalypse?” The guy says, “No, I just want to make sure that if the world ends, I go out with a bang and a very localized gas problem.”
- The Matrix Bedroom: A man tells his wife, “I feel like Neo. I can see the code behind everything.” She looks at him and says, “Great. Then you should be able to see the code that says ‘Take out the trash’ which has been flashing in your vision for three days.”
- The American Pie Moment: Why did the guy take a pie to his bedroom? Because in 1999, it was the only thing that promised to be “warm, flaky, and wouldn’t talk back about his career choices.”
- The Millennial Bug: A woman asks her husband, “Are you worried about the Y2K bug?” He says, “No, I’m more worried about the ‘Marriage Bug’—the one where I spend a fortune on a party and still end up sleeping on the couch because I forgot our anniversary.”
- The Nokia Pride: “Is that a Nokia 3210 in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?” “Actually, it’s just the phone. If I were happy to see you, I wouldn’t be able to play Snake on it for four hours straight.”
- The Britney Effect: A guy says to his friend, “My girlfriend is like Britney Spears.” “Talented and famous?” “No, she keeps saying ‘Oops!… I Did It Again’ every time she maxes out my credit card.”
- The Star Wars Prequel: “Our love life is like The Phantom Menace.” “Exciting and long-awaited?” “No, it’s full of boring trade negotiations and everyone is disappointed by the ending.”
- The Viagra Countdown: A man takes a blue pill on December 31, 1999, at 11:55 PM. His friend asks, “Why now?” He says, “If the computers crash and the lights go out, I want to be the only thing in this house that’s still standing at attention.”
- The Blair Witch Date: A couple goes into the woods. The guy starts standing in the corner of the tent. The wife asks, “What are you doing?” He says, “I’m practicing the ‘Blair Witch’ defense—if I look scary enough, maybe your mother won’t find us here.”
- The Y2K Divorce: A couple decides to get a divorce on Dec 31, 1999. The judge asks why. They say, “We figured if the world’s ‘data’ is going to be wiped, we might as well start the new millennium without each other’s ‘baggage’ taking up memory space.”
The Full 1999 Adult Archive (Selected Items 11–56)
- The Napster Sin: “I downloaded my girlfriend’s affection on Napster.” “How was it?” “The quality was poor, it took ten hours, and halfway through, my mom picked up the phone and disconnected us.”
- The Sixth Sense: A guy tells his wife, “I see dead people.” She says, “Those aren’t dead people, those are just your friends after you forced them to watch your 4-hour Y2K survival PowerPoint.”
- The Fight Club Rule: “The first rule of our marriage is: You do not talk about our sex life.” “And the second rule?” “No, seriously, don’t talk about it. It’s embarrassing for both of us.”
- The Pokémon Craze: Why are men like Pokémon? Because you have to poke ’em to get them to move, and they only have about four basic moves, most of which involve sleeping.
- The Red Pill: “If you take the blue pill, the story ends. If you take the red pill, you stay in Wonderland.” “What if I take the little blue pill from the doctor?” “Then Wonderland is going to have a very long night.”
- The Austin Powers Sequel: “I’ve lost my Mojo!” “No, Harold, you just lost the remote. Sit down.”
- The Millennium Party: A guy invites a girl over for a “Pre-Apocalypse” party. She asks, “Who else is coming?” He says, “Just you, me, and a 50-gallon drum of bottled water. It’s going to be intense.”
- The Silicon Valley: Why did the programmer break up with his girlfriend in 1999? Because she had too many “legacy systems” (ex-boyfriends) and her “interface” was non-responsive.
- The Euro Launch: “I’m like the new Euro currency.” “Valuable?” “No, I’m confusing to use and nobody in England wants anything to do with me.”
- The South Park Movie: “My husband is like the South Park movie: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut.” “Wow, really?” “No, I’m just quoting the poster. In reality, he’s more like a short episode with a lot of bleeping.”
- The iMac G3: Why is a 1999 iMac like a mistress? It’s colorful, curvy, expensive, and you have to hide it when your boss comes over because you’re supposed to be working on a PC.
- The Y2K Bug #2: A guy tells his wife he’s a “Y2K Expert.” She says, “That explains why you spend all day doing nothing and then panic at the last second.”
- The Ricky Martin Life: “I’m ‘Livin’ la Vida Loca’!” “No, Dave, you’re ‘Livin’ la Vida Broka’ because you spent your savings on a fallout shelter.”
- The Office Space: “My job is like the movie Office Space. I have eight different bosses, and my only motivation is the fear of losing my red stapler.”
- The Dial-up: Why is 1999 sex like dial-up internet? It takes forever to connect, there’s a lot of weird screeching, and if someone calls the house, it’s over.
- The Sopranos: “I’m the Tony Soprano of this house!” “So you’re a stressed-out guy who sees a therapist because his ducks flew away?” “Exactly.”
- The Storage: “I have enough canned spam to last until 2005!” “Great, but do you have a girlfriend?” “No, the spam took up her side of the bed.”
- The Eyes Wide Shut: “Let’s try something from that Tom Cruise movie.” “What, wearing masks and being confused for three hours?” “Basically.”
- The eBay Win: “I just bought a ‘vintage’ 1998 pager on eBay!” “Why?” “I want to be able to ignore people with style when the world ends.”
- The Hotmail Address: “My wife found my ‘SecretHotGuy69’ Hotmail account.” “What happened?” “She sent me an email from ‘DivorceLawyer99’ and told me to ‘click here’ for my belongings.”
- The Survivalist: A guy is building a bunker. His wife asks, “Is there room for me?” He says, “It depends. Do you count as ‘essential equipment’ or ‘entertainment’?”
- The Sex and the City: “I’m a total Carrie!” “No, you’re a total Mr. Big—mostly absent and emotionally unavailable.”
- The Matrix Glitch: “I had a glitch in the Matrix today.” “What happened?” “I thought I saw my wife smiling, but it was just a reflection of her seeing my credit card statement.”
- The Cher Song: “Do you believe in life after love?” “I’d settle for life after 12:01 AM January 1st without the power going out.”
- The Laptop Battery: Why is a 1999 laptop battery like a middle-aged man? It claims to last for hours, but it’s done in fifteen minutes and needs a long recharge.
- The Stifler’s Mom: Why did the teen invite his friends over? To see if “Stifler’s Mom” was a real person or just a 1999 legend.
- The Payphone: “I saw a payphone today.” “Did you use it?” “No, I just stood next to it to feel like I was in a movie from 1995.”
- The Viagra Trial #3: A man says, “Since 1998, my life has changed!” The doctor says, “The pills worked?” The man says, “No, my wife left me, but at least I have a lot of free time and a very rigid schedule.”
- The Y2K Fear: “If the planes fall out of the sky, what will we do?” “Probably the same thing we do now—complain about the lack of legroom on the way down.”
- The Palm Pilot: “I put ‘Sex’ in my Palm Pilot for tonight.” “And?” “It crashed. Apparently, even the hardware thinks that’s an unrealistic goal.”
- The Clinton Ghost: “Bill is finally out of the headlines.” “Yeah, now we just have to worry about the world ending. I almost miss the blue dress.”
- The Toy Story 2: “Why is our marriage like Toy Story 2?” “Because you’re a collectible that should have stayed in the original packaging.”
- The Budget: “I spent $5,000 on a Y2K-compliant toaster.” “Why?” “Because if the world ends, I still want my sourdough perfectly browned.”
- The Virtual Pet: “My Giga Pet died.” “Did you forget to feed it?” “No, I realized I’m 35 and I shouldn’t be ‘cleaning up’ digital poop anymore.”
- The Matrix Sequel: “I can’t wait for the sequels!” “Why? You didn’t even understand the first one.” “I just liked the leather coats, okay?”
- The Password: “My password is ‘1234’.” “That’s not secure!” “It doesn’t matter, the world is ending in three weeks anyway.”
- The Survival Kit: A guy has a kit with a flashlight, a radio, and a bottle of Scotch. His wife says, “The Scotch is for the pain?” He says, “No, the Scotch is so I don’t care about the radio being broken.”
